Out of place

When Regina invited us to attend a social mixer that she was hostessing near her office, we thought that would be a good way to get to know some of her friends and co-workers. So we agreed, and decided to make a night of it by going out to eat at Longhorn’s first. We both love their Flo’s filet and we happened to have a coupon to make the dinner less expensive.

Once we got to the mixer, Regina was thrilled to see us. She brought us right in and introduced us to her new boyfriend, Daniel. Daniel seemed like a very likable fellow, and we talked small-talk for a while (How ’bout the Giants beating the Patriots?) and then the talk turned to careers. Seems that Daniel is in chemical investment banking. He works for a firm that specializes in giving advice to investors about chemical mergers and acquisitions. We exchanged business cards, and he was very interested to hear about my truck that I’m restoring, so we talked about that for a while.

He took us around the room and introduced us to some of the other people there and made sure that we felt at ease. He was a good co-host with Regina; without him there I think we would have felt really out-of-place at the mixer full of financial advisers.

Thinking about getting a new car

My wife and I have been talking about getting a new car.  We have been talking about buying one for about a year now.  My sister in law has been urging us to lease a car, instead.  She has been leasing her car(s) for about the last ten years, and every other year she trades it in for a new one.  So, she is always buying a new car.

My wife says she’s not sure if leasing is the best option for us.  She doesn’t like the idea that at the end of the lease agreement, we don’t end up owning the car.  She doesn’t think it is a good investment.  But, I like driving new cars!  So we need to discuss this out between us.  She says that put a lot of miles on our cars every year, and the mileage overage charges could really hurt us a lot.  But, to humor my sister-in-law and me, we have been checking out leasing a car.
