Daughter Learning to Skateboard

My daughter’s boyfriend loves to skateboard.  He has encouraged my daughter to learn how to skateboard too.  For now he has been lending her one of his many skateboards to learn on.  There is a great skateboard park near where they live, and they have been going there almost every day for several weeks now.  She is finding out that she loves to skateboard too, and she is getting pretty good at it!

Pontiac GT Model

web-2004-pontiac-gto.jpgI started building a 2004 GTO model this week.  I’m not sure I knew what I was getting into!  I knew I was going to detail it quite a bit, but I didn’t expect there to be so many details of suspension!  I worked on the undercarriage for almost a whole day, or it seemed like it, anyway!  Just after I painted.  I almost painted the body bright red.  I think it is really going to come out nice.

Competing for computer time

I want to play games on our computer.  My wife wants to pay bills and check her emails on our computer.  It shouldn’t be a problem to share, (we ARE both adults!) but we find that more often we are competing with each other for computer time.  I suppose that is what happens when you both have only a limited amount of “free time” to be on the computer, and it happens to coincide with your spouse’s “free time.”

My brother-in-law is always telling me that he can get a really good discount on computers from a vendor of his. I think I’ll talk to him and see if he can fix me up with my own laptop so my wife and I won’t have to compete for computer time.

Gun ranges – dual purpose

I like to shoot guns.  Unlike exhaust, loud exhaust I might add, guns are even louder!  You really need earplugs!  I recently joined a gun club where I live.  And immediately started going on a weekly basis trying to improve on my marksmanship, which was pretty good to start with.  I hadn’t fired any of my weapons for two to three years because I’ve been extremely busy, but now with a little time I’m able to go once a week and shoot.  I don’t drink or do any drugs, so I have a little bit of money to buy bullets, and you can go home when you’re done and not have to worry about being stopped for anything.  Cheap entertainment!

Anyway, I discovered a lot of people were going to the range, which really surprised me.  Come to find out, half the people going to the range were getting ready to take a proficiency test to get their gun permit.  I already had mine, although I am preparing to go for my federal permit.  I don’t have to worry about qualifying; I consider myself a great shot.  I still go every week just to make sure; and it is fun!  But back to the people that go there regularly now.  They will probably never go back there again after they get their gun permit as it has become quite a controversial issue down here in the Washington area.

While talking to the gun shop owner, who owns the range, he agreed with me too, but business is brisk right now and these people will take all the business they can get!  I forgot to mention he holds proficiency classes every Saturday and is booked up for the next three months!

NASCAR diecast collection

Over the last ten years I’ve been collecting certain die-cast cars of NASCAR drivers that are my favorites, and who win the top races.  I don’t have all the die-cast cars of every race driver out there, but I do have at least one of most every driver that has won a major race.  Of course, we all know the top drivers are Ernie Irvin,Kyle Busch,Tony Stewert and Jeff Gordon.  Also on occasion Michael Waltrip and Jeff Burton have won races.  Oh, I almost forgot Dale Ernhardt and Dale Ernhardt Jr!  I have a lot of their cars, especially the ones with the fancy paint jobs.

One of my favorites die-cast cars is Ernhardt’s car with the pastel colors.  You know what I mean if you’ve seen it.  I especially enjoy collecting the cars that are painted up like Star Wars or Superman, I have one that has a picture of Brooks & Dunn on it, one with Tweety Bird & Sylvester, and one with the Incredible Hulk.  That one is really sharp.  We all know like everything else, the price of these cars keeps going up, and with my limited funds I even take the time to discuss this with my wife with just having two or three cars a year versus buying eight or ten.  She’s a nut about the finances especially when the bills barely get paid each month.

I haven’t bought a car for pretty much a year now, but what I’m pretty much doing now is buying one or two cars a year, those being the ones of the top #1 and #2 drivers that finish in the top points of NASCAR for the year, that way I have a record each year and a car of the top driver.
