All school systems should give laptops to their students
When I first read about the program the state of Maine was going to do where every seventh grade student would be given their very own Apple laptop to take back and forth to school, and to keep that same laptop forever as their own I was very impressed. Maine has been behind the eight-ball in competing with the lower 48 states with high technology jobs for a very long time, and giving every student their own laptop to keep forever is a huge step towards giving the Maine youth the opportunity to compete in the technologically sophisticated workplace.
My own children just missed out on getting their own Apple laptop because they were already in the higher grades when the program started, and I can recall thinking that it would have been great if the state had given all of the students in the higher grades their own laptops as well, but at least my own kids had computers and Internet connection at home so they were going to be fine just the same. Besides, I did not want to have to worry about how much money it would cost to purchase replacement Apple Laptop Batteries down the road since I have always heard that the Apple products tend to be costly, and from what I have always heard most business applications use the PC format at this point in time. Eventually that may change, but for now I am happy just dealing with one operating system at a time!
