It seems that my folks are seriously considering relocating to Florida to retire and enjoy their “golden years” and since they are avid golf fans they are looking to find a retirement community that will keep their favorite sport close at hand. I’m not crazy about them moving so far away, but I do believe that they deserve to spend the rest of their life in comfort and able to enjoy the sport that they have enjoyed together for so many years.
They have been busy looking online at various retirement communities and have found a few that they are wanting to fly down and check out for themselves. So far the CCRC Retirement Communities in Palm Beach Gardens seems to be on the top of their list and they are getting all excited and worked up about the idea of actually making the move. I just wish that I could take the trip with them to make sure that they make the wisest decision possible. It’s hard to think of your aging parents making such drastic and important decisions on their own.
Although we have become pretty much a disposal society, I tend to try and fix and repair things that I have purchased rather than just tossing them out, which fills up our landfills and keeps the big business guys raking in the big bucks. I would much rather take my shoes and other footwear to the local shoe repair shop which is a great little mom and pop business that is struggling to keep there doors open, which just breaks my heart. Since Walmart came to town we have all seen way too many small businesses going out of business and we all need to do what we can in order to keep more good folks employed by someone else other than Wally World.
So when I noticed that our outdoor furniture is looking pretty shabby I decided to try and find patio chair repair business that could help with our outdoor furniture repair concerns. Luckily it only took a few minutes by using the Internet to locate a reputable company that will hopefully come to our rescue. We have worked very hard for several years to get our front, side and back yard looking good and to become a place that we can kick back to relax as well as a place that we can entertain during the nice weather days that we are blessed with having throughout the year. We really lucked out this winter and so far spring has been most excellent as well. I sure hope we continue to be blessed during the summer and fall months, but something tells me that that would be pushing our luck just a tad much.
It would really be nice if I could find some one who could help get that darned old hot tub out back up and running again. It is so old that it has become a challenge finding replacement parts for what it needs to be used and enjoyed once again. There is nothing like sitting in a nice hot tub and letting these old bones get a good soaking and letting those tense muscles relax after a hard day of work.
Sometimes I just need a break from burgers for lunch, so Subway has become my restaurant of choice lately. I like to get take advantage of their $5 foot long sub and my favorite is the Spicy Italian. I just wish that they didn’t ask so many questions about how I want it fixed. I understand why they do this but I find that when I’m in a hurry or not in the best of moods that I tend to get a bit cranky and irritated with all the questions. Funny thing is that I’m not the only one that feels that way. There have been several people that I have talked to about Subway that feel the same way.
Whenever the wife and I go into a home improvement store, like Home Depot or Lowes, she usually heads right over to the department where they have their displays of residential address plaques. Ever since we moved here she’s been wanting to buy one of those personalized address plaques for the place . The current address sign that was already installed on the house is really sad looking and she tends to get aggravated about the way it looks to people when they come over to our house.
I’ve tried time and time again to reason with her stating that most people don’t even notice address signs when they go to someone’s house, but of course she disagrees with me, nothing new there. She would like to get one of the custom address plaques that has our name on it as well as the house number. They do have some nice quality looking address plaques out there these days, I have to admit, so I’m thinking that when we get our tax return check, which is due to hit our bank account any day now, that I will surprise her with one that I think will be suitable for the type of house we live in as well as one that she can live with and finally get off my back about the whole issue and we can move on to bigger and better things next time we go into any more stores.
It seems as if we are seeing more and more used construction equipment for sale in various lots, drive ways, yards and on the side of the road. The construction business has been in such a slump for so long, with no end in sight and it breaks my heart to see so many good hard working construction workers out of work for so long. My brother-in-law has had his backhoe for sale for over a year now with very few people even making any kind of inquires with no serious buyers trying to knock down his door waving cold hard case in front of his face.
Right now is a great time to buy up any used heavy equipment of course. I have an old friend who’s father is doing very well buying used dozers and the like and reselling them. Of course to do something like that you have to have money to begin with. The old saying “It takes money to make money” is oh so very true.
