A new mattress

Our mattress simply is not as comfortable as it used to be; my wife has been complaining a lot lately about a backache, and that is not normal at all. We’ve turned the mattress and still her back hurts. Seems like it was just a couple of years ago when we bought it, but when we think about it, we realized that we bought it over ten years ago!

So we have agreed to keep our eyes open for a good mattress sale to try to get a good price on a new mattress. We’ve always slept on a king mattress, and even though our family and friends can’t seem to understand why we can’t seem to sleep on a smaller bed, we just know from experience that we just don’t sleep well on anything less. We’ve found that finding a king mattress sale can be challenging; it seems to us that more queen and double beds seem to go on sale than king size. So it may be a while, but it is important to get a new one as soon as we can.

Unexpected friend stopped by

I was watching tv the other night; pretty much getting ready to go to bed when my son said “are you expecting anybody?”  I said “no, why?” He said “somebody just drove up the driveway!”  I didn’t have a clue who it was; I went to the door and discovered that it was a friend of mine, Danny, who I haven’t seen in a couple of months!

He was in the area and decided to stop in.  We became good friends about a year ago; and although we don’t see each other on a regular occasion, we keep in touch by cell phone at least once a week!  It was an unexpected surprise.  He stayed about an hour and a half.  We talked about his hot rod; we talked about my hot rod.  He said he was definitely going to stay in contact and maybe do some fishing this weekend.  It was great to see him again!

Fresh eggs anyone?

Lately my wife and I have been considering getting a few backyard chickens to help keep the tick population under control. We keep hearing stories of so many people in the area getting lyme tick disease that it is starting to make us nervous about walking around in our own back yards! We’ve been noticing that there are a few neighbors that have been selling some fresh eggs, and it gave us the idea that maybe in addition to keeping the tick population down an added benefit would be to cut down on our grocery bill a little bit by eating the freshly laid eggs from our own chickens.

Of course we need to research the different chickens for sale and price out the cost of chicken feed to add all of that into the calculations. And just as important, we have to come up with a game plan for how to keep the wild foxes from killing the chickens. I’m not sure that we will be able to keep the chickens safe.

Burning the brush pile

This past weekend I was happy to finally be able to burn the brush pile that I have been building for months.  There has been a drought in the area, which resulted in a burning moratorium.  We’ve had a few days of rain, and they lifted the moratorium, so I burned the pile.

I was truly in my element, out there, rake in hand, tending the fire.  It burned high and quick.  My wife was nervous about sparks setting the nearby woods on fire, or even our roof, but I had everything under control.  She is such a worrier!

I was surprised, though, that the pile smoldered for four days afterwards!  A little surprise rose out of this, on the third night, I let the dogs out about two o’clock in the morning.  Within minutes, they started barking and growling.  As I stepped out onto the deck to see what the matter was, I saw two large glowing eyes staring at me from the middle of the lawn.  Upon further examination, I noticed that it was two hot spots from the pile of ashes and embers that was driving the dogs crazy.  The next day I hosed the spot down and took care of it.

Address Signs Are Important

My kid sister has been giving me some grief lately concerning my current address sign that is older than dirt at this point. She’s been saying that she saw a show on TV which was discussing that our emergency personnel are really having a difficult time finding the right place to respond to – when they are called and needed for assistance – because of the issue of  a growing number of unreadable address signs. You can only imagine  that at night it would be even more of a challenge.

With this being said she is urging me to get off of it and start looking around online and look at the large variety of address plaques and numbers that are on today’s market. She sent me the link to justaddressplaques.com the other day and I’ve spent some time looking around and seeing what is out there that might just float my boat. I never realized how many varieties of house address plaques there are these days.

It only makes sense to get a quality and easy to read address plaque. There are times when I call one of the Chinese Restaurants or the local Domino’s Pizza to be delivered and I do like my food nice and hot. Better chance of getting it hot if they delivery person can read the address plaque.
