Ever since my car accident, cold and wet weather has made me miserable. So, since it has been raining and snowing all day long today, it was a good day to sleep in my recliner chair beside the fireplace and nap off and on while enjoying our newly installed satellite television service. Everyone I know has been telling me that when there is bad weather we will suffer from bad television reception, but so far that hasn’t happened yet.

For so many years both of my parents thought that their beloved German Shepard was the best type of Home Security Systems around hands down. He always made for good company and always made them feel safe in their own home. But these days there is such a huge increase in home break ins that they are now giving second thoughts about only relying on their guard dog. It’s unfortunately gotten so bad that we are now seeing more and more of the signs in people’s yards announcing that they have had the installation of a well known Home Alarm System company, ADT. There are more of these types of signs than the For Sale and Foreclosure signs that have been placed in so many people’s front yards.

My folks have gotten very proficient on using the Internet. They are not the type of seniors that are known for shying away from today’s technology. They are embracing it and using to the best of the abilities. I’m so proud of them for being that way. They have taken their time and taught several of their senior friends on how to use the Internet in many ways. So my mom was looking for tips on how to keep their home and property safe and they have decided to go ahead and have ADT Home Security come out and install a good quality security system for them. I’m so  glad to hear it and I really hope that it makes them have more peace of mind so that they can spend their “golden years” having fun in the sun and on the water rather than worrying about some jerk breaking in and possibly hurting them while trying to steel all of the things that they have worked so hard to get.

Have you ever been irritated when the power went out?  I have.  Fact is, I get downright mad!  After a few times of this, I made up my mind I was going to have my own generator.  I started out with a junker that ran 2 lights in the house.  As I got more money I updated to one that ran half of the house.  Finally, ten years later, I was able to update to get one that not only ran the whole house, but started by itself when the power went out.  It was a lot of money, but it was well worth it.  If my wife & I had to go somewhere and get up early in the morning and it was a snowstorm or a rainstorm and there was no power we didn’t have to worry, because we still had plenty of heat and hot water.

I found that it was quite interesting to look outside and not see any lights on anywhere around and know that nobody had power except us.  I could get up, get dressed, take a hot shower and go where ever I wanted to go.  My wife thought it was great!  Still does, to this day!

My wife has been getting some packages in the mail over the past couple of days and I was starting to wonder why she suddenly felt that we had enough money to start shopping online for things that were not on our “needs” budget.

Well it turns out that she found a shopping website that has bargain prices online lower than I’ve ever seen before. When she showed me the great deals she was getting and explained that she was getting stocked up on birthday gifts for all of the February family birthdays I had to admit that she was doing some very smart shopping. I wish the everyday prices on all of the items were that low!

I have to give my new brother-in-law credit for trying to start up a new business in today’s economic unrest. He married my kid sister, got her pregnant and moved them down to Texas in a short amount of time, and before we knew it they were married and gone. No one expected that and there are a lot of hard feelings going on in the family because of that decision made in such haste.

Anyway, he is starting his own Houston Junk removal service since he has a background in that type of business. He worked for his father for several of his teen years with his Junk removal service and he is a hard worker, so I can only pray that Texas will be good to them all and allow them the opportunity to succeed and prosper since raising a family is anything but cheap these days. And since I don’t think anyone will be traveling that far south to visit them they are going to need money to travel back and forth so that we can all see, hold and touch the new baby when it arrives in the near future.
