My wife and I have been talking about how to best dispose of our garbage. She would really like to compost and has been asking me for months to set up a compost pile. She keeps telling me that the compost would be good for our garden. We don’t have a garbage disposal: and I tell her that I’d rather just get a garbage disposal. Composting sounds like a lot of work, and I don’t feel like doing the work. She tells me that garbage disposals are bad for septic systems, but I know lots of people with septic systems have garbage disposals!

I was reading an article on the Slate.com news website that discusses whether people should use garbage disposals or just put their garbage in the trash to be hauled to a landfill. The article assumes that no one has a septic system, and it recommends compost piles as the first and best choice, the garbage disposal as the second best choice, and putting garbage in the trash to be hauled to the landfill as the worst choice. I wish the article had addressed septic systems!

Humans, like most primates, have a fairly small set of major driving forces resulting in behavior. One of the strongest forces is the need to be part of a group, which for our species in necessary for survival (in the ancient days, being expelled from the group meant certain death, from starvation or animal attack, so this force is strong).

Another force is that an awful lot of people want to be the head ape, or at least be in good favor with the head ape. Thus we have leaders or celebrities and their entourages. This desire to be head ape is what drives politics, corporate greed, all kinds of things. It is basic biology and we can see examples of this throughout the animal kingdom.

Recently I’ve been spending some time checking out several web site hosting directories, which by the way, have been extremely helpful. I’m very grateful for sites that take so much leg work out of researching products and services such as webhosting. I’ve been wanting to see which webhosting providers are actively doing what they can to be eco-friendly in today’s ever growing Green movement. From what I’d heard there are numerous providers out there and I wanted to see for myself and see which ones are making that effort and find the one that fits my needs and wants. It’s time to make a switch.

SuperGreen, FatCow, iPage, HostPapa, HostGator, netfirms, ThinkHost and coolhandle are all good choices, but I’m seriously leaning heavy towards SuperGreenbecause they are cutting their carbon emission by 20% by using good reliable green Dell servers as well as being active participates in tree planting projects, which is a big deal if you ask me. Check out the ratings that they received from webhostingfan.com – pretty good numbers if you ask me.

Rating:

Customer Service – 5 of 5 stars
Features – 5 of 5 stars
Price – 5 of 5 stars
Reliability & Uptime – 4 of 5 stars
Technical Support – 5 of 5 stars
User-friendliness – 5 of 5 stars
