A couple of weeks ago we bought a doggie door. We’ve hired a contractor to install it, with the theory that he would be better qualified to put it in than I am, and if anything goes wrong with the installation, he is the one that has to deal with fixing it. Well he was supposed to come last Friday but called and rescheduled for today. He came out today about 11am, and expected to be done by 2pm. Well, he made a few mistakes and was still working on it at 6pm when he called it quits for the day. He said he’ll be back out first thing Monday morning to fix it. I hope so! I’m looking forward to having the dogs enjoy the convenience of letting themselves in and out!

For many years I’ve been wanting to get a Shih-Tzu puppy. My wife says she would prefer a Pomeranian. We already have two dogs, one is about twelve years old, the other is two years old. The older dog is a large dog, the younger is a small dog. The younger dog is deaf, and we have talked from time to time about how at some point we will need to get another dog in the house to “help” the deaf dog to cope with life. One of the things that has prevented us from getting the new dog is the cost of buying a purebred dog, as well as the stalemate of what breed to get.
Well, I ran into a friend of mine two days ago and he tells me that his chihuahua dog is pregnant and he wants to GIVE me (for free) one of the puppies. What a dilemma! We are considering it, not sure yet if we really WANT one of those little critters! I mean they are REALLY little! And our HUGE cat might mistake the puppy for a mouse and eat it! Well, we’ve agreed not to be TOO worried about it at this point, the puppy hasn’t even been born yet, so we will bide our time and see what happens.

Several months ago my wife signed up for a profile on a website called care.com so that she would be considered for the position of occassional pet walker. She thought it would be a fun way to make a few extra dollars from time to time. She loves dogs. Anyway, she got a job this weekend to go to a lady’s house and let her dog outside twice a day and feed and water him. The dog’s name is Spaghetti! I have to wonder why in the world would someone name their dog Spaghetti! I think that they need another one now and name it Meatballs.

My wife has been complaining that I have not been paying close enough attention to the house manners (or lack thereof) of our dogs. Ever since we got Riley, Pita has regressed to marking everything in the house, and then Riley marks, and then Pita marks. My wife has been asking me to confine them to the rooms that aren’t carpeted, and to pay close attention to them, and warning me to not put things on the floor that I didn’t want to get peed on, but I really didn’t realize it was really that big of a deal and was ignoring my wife’s words of caution until I saw both of them lift their legs on my brand new leather laptop bag that my daughter gave me for Father’s Day!
I was not happy about that at all, I can tell you that! So after cleaning the bag I put it up on top of my desk and complained to my wife about it she simply smiled at me and said “oh really? you don’t say!” I hate it when she’s right! But I don’t want to confine the dogs to the kitchen, either! Not quite sure what to do with this situation other than to put doggy diapers on them both.

Thankfully my children never colored on anything inappropriate. Although the dog does not seem to mind being the canvas, I have to wonder about the parenting. Why would someone go get the camera and take a picture of this rather than grabbing the crayon out of his hand to stop the coloring? And perhaps a smack on the butt was is order, too.
