My sons are tall and very slender, and have a hard time finding clothes that fit their tall slender frames. So we decided to try one of the big and tall mens clothing stores in town and were rather disappointed that when they say big and tall they really mean big and tall. As in they have no clothes for slender and tall, they only have clothes for big – as in heavy and tall. Heavy and short, no. Slender and tall, no. Heavy and tall, yes. Both together.
So the search continues for good fitting clothes for my slender and tall sons. It is becoming more apparent that we are going to have to go into one of the larger cities, or shop online for their clothes. That really is a shame; we’d love to give the money to local businesses if we can. But if the business is not going to carry the item, we have no choice in the matter. After all, they can’t run around buck naked!

One of the sad truths about society here is that the pay rate of day care workers are low and yet the parents that send their kids to day care cannot afford to pay the expensive prices of day care! My niece has been trying to re-enter the job force and my wife and I have been trying to help her to find affordable child care for her two year old daughter.
The search reminds me of when our own kids were very young and we had to send them to child care while we worked. One of the things that we considered was whether or not the center had individual kids lockers for the enrolled children. We wanted to make certain that the childrens lockers were assigned to each child so that their possessions would not get misplaced. We even ended up buying a second hand set of lockers for kids for the day care center that we chose so that each child had his or her own space.

I’ve been hearing bits and pieces about a mother who was convicted of child abuse. She punished her adopted son by forcing him to drink hot sauce and take cold showers. I think that people like that should be sterilized and prevented from being near children. What scum!

My son J called and said that he is going to come spend the weekend with us over the Labor Day Holiday, and my wife is really excited about seeing him for the weekend. Nothing excites my wife more than being with her family. J said that he is going to bring the Handheld Infrared Thermometer that he uses at work to check out our house for heat loss.
I’ve often thought it would be really interesting to use an Infrared Thermometer to check for that, it would help us to detect areas that need to be better weather proofed, but I don’t know anyplace local that rents Infrared Thermometers, and the last time I checked prices on them, the price was a little bit high for our budget. I’ve heard that home inspectors use them for their clients, but of course they charge a hefty price as well for their services. I don’t begrudge them making a living, but since we still don’t have a settlement from the insurance company from my accident, we are still guarding every penny like a dragon guards his treasures stashed in his lair.
So we are tickled pink to be able to have J scan our house to perform that inspection for us for free! I guess that college education of his is starting to pay off!

My daughter is dating a young man who is taking college courses about how to pursue and maintain a nonprofit career. I joke that all of my hard work has always been nonprofit jobs, but not on purpose! I’ve worked really hard all of my life trying to make a profit and now my daughter is dating a guy who wants non profit jobs on purpose! What is this world coming to?
In all honesty, though, I’ve heard a lot of people tell me that so many charities struggle so hard financially because they over-pay the executives, and that is the biggest reason why these charities struggle with their fund-raising efforts. There does seem to be a general consensus that the money goes straight into the pockets of the top executives. Because of that controversy, I wonder exactly how much “good” can one do within these organizations. I applaud his desire to benefit society, but I am afraid that I have grown jaded with age.
