It is all in who you know

Randy dropped by the house earlier with a business proposition. He wants me to help him to expand his landscaping business by mentoring and using my previous business contacts to help him get his foot in the door. He has come to learn that success in a venture is more about making the best use out of people that you know than it is about working hard. Sure, hard work is part of the equation, but having the support of influential people is the biggest factor. That is why when I hear someone talk about going to a community college is just as good as going to an ivy league college I simply have to disagree. The educational experience may be as good academically, but being exposed to the elite population at an ivy league college is what is really going to open the doors of success.

So I told Randy that I would be more than happy to help him out by taking him to a couple of the networking meetings and social clubs like the Masons and the Elks. I’d introduce him and then let him observe how networking is done and hopefully he will make some good contacts.

More people are staying put

Guest post by Dianna Campbell

One thing is for sure, many more people are staying put in their homes instead of trying to sell their homes and buy new ones. The entire global economy is so uncertain right now that the general feeling here in Toronto is that it is better to hire some toronto contractors to update your existing house than it is to risk losing money in the real estate market of trying to sell it and then not being able to get out from under it.

I can remember when my hubby and I decided that we wanted to have some renovations toronto done to our house – we wanted to raise the roof and add on three bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs and then remodel the kitchen. We found some really fantastic toronto kitchen contractors that made the cabinets by hand. They took a fairly long time to complete the cabinets, but they were totally awesome and we were the envy of the neighborhood when the kitchen was finished.

When I moved out of that house it broke my heart to leave that kitchen behind.

Using the Internet to make money

Guest post by Linda Bradshaw

Today I was really surprised when I got a chat message from Yvonne from our business networking group. She and I had chatted several months ago about how I enjoy blogging and I had approached her about me working for her as a copy writer for her Internet marketing enterprise. Yvonne very politely turned me down, without any hesitation whatsoever, so I guess she just wanted to keep all of her work close to her chest and not hire any outside help.

So, as I was saying, I was surprised today when Yvonne messaged to me that she had heard about my recent challenges and she thought that she was doing me a favor by suggesting that I might be able to make some money by signing on with a pay-per-click advertising service. She sent me a link to the Home page of a pay-per-click website, and I did look around at the website for a few minutes. I’m always interested in the types of financial opportunities are available. Being a blogger, I really did not look at the advertiser page because I didn’t feel like I was trying to sell a product, rather I read the publisher page to see how it all worked. For folks who have high traffic on their blogs, I can see where they could monetize their blogs in that way, but when I look at the stats for my own blogs I really don’t think that I would be making any significant amount of money myself. But I will forward the information on to my brother who has a very highly visited web page – I bet he would make a fortune!

Unexpected friend stopped by

I was watching tv the other night; pretty much getting ready to go to bed when my son said “are you expecting anybody?”  I said “no, why?” He said “somebody just drove up the driveway!”  I didn’t have a clue who it was; I went to the door and discovered that it was a friend of mine, Danny, who I haven’t seen in a couple of months!

He was in the area and decided to stop in.  We became good friends about a year ago; and although we don’t see each other on a regular occasion, we keep in touch by cell phone at least once a week!  It was an unexpected surprise.  He stayed about an hour and a half.  We talked about his hot rod; we talked about my hot rod.  He said he was definitely going to stay in contact and maybe do some fishing this weekend.  It was great to see him again!

New Boots

You can’t go just anywhere when you’re looking for a good pair of Motorcycle Boots.  Especially when the bike you are riding happens to be a Harley.  Every man’s foot is different; some men prefer a police boot for comfort as opposed to a rough and tough cowboy boot.  There are many styles and many sizes; you need the right one to fit your foot.  Personally I’ve always enjoyed the engineer style boot.  Waxed, of course.  Now they come with a Harley emblem on the back of them.  When you’re riding with a group of people, almost anyone and everyone in the group will be sure to look to see what everyone else is wearing.
