Options

One of the things that I think is exceptional about the Internet is how small it has made the world.  News that used to take months to travel around the globe now only takes seconds.  Competition between businesses has increased many times over.  And educational opportunities abound.  I think that the educational opportunities is one of the most important aspects of today’s Internet and technological advances.

We’re going to need all the help we can get to solve the world’s troubles down the road.  And many of those problem will require math skills to solve.  There was a time when common belief was that girls were not good at math.  But now anyone who is struggling with Math Problems only need to go as far as their nearest Internet connection to get the Math help that they need.  There are many educational websites that are geared up to assist the struggling math student.  With just a few clicks on the mouse, Algebra help is easily acquired.  In many cases, the help is free!

Yes, the Internet has opened up many options to the world.  I hope we make the best of it.

It can get confusing

I have always found it interesting how many different people struggle with different academic subjects. For example, my biggest problems in school were in Chemistry and in Geometry. For the life of me I couldn’t do well in those classes! Although I found it relatively easy to pass most math courses, sometimes I feel that I really didn’t learn much about the problem solving process – I just memorized a lot of formulas. Lucky for me, I’ve found that the Internet is a great source for brushing up on a variety of subjects.

For example, even though I took statistics in school, it has been many years since I studied it. I’m sure that if I really needed to apply what I learned, I would be in for a real struggle. But there are great websites, such as the tutorvista.com website that is designed to give Statistics help to students that I think I could use to help me with any Statistics problems that I might stumble upon as I go through life. I think it’s great; having a Statistics tutor right in your own home, with just a click of the mouse to get the help you need!

Mixing business with pleasure

There are several of my in-laws that I really enjoy hanging out with.  My brother-in-law Will, for example, has a Harley.  I have a Harley.  We like to ride together.  He’s a nice guy and would give the shirt off his back to help another family member.  But by day, he is a self-employed IT specialist.  He has several clients that pay him handsomely to take care of the details of the computer and Internet needs.

And because he is self-employed, he is always networking; trying to line up more clients.  So there have been times when we’ve gone riding together and ended up meeting with potential clients.  After a few minutes of listening to them talk about such things as dedicated server hosting,  colocation services, and managed hosting solutions I usually wander off and try to find myself a place to grab a drink and take a short nap.  I’m beginning to think that I should pack a bedroll and a good book onto the back of my bike!  I don’t mind mixing a little bit of business with pleasure, but these are topics above and beyond my own needs and interests.  But, it pays him a good salary, so I’m all for it!

She needs a few spare pair

Filed under: Computers, Family, General Living, Health, Internet, Shopping — Copa @ 9:05 pm

My wife is always misplacing her eyeglasses.  She uses two pairs, one for the computer/reading, and the other for general life.  The “general life” are progressive lenses and the computer glasses are just mid-range single vision.  It seems that she takes both pairs of glasses with her to work because she is on the computer quite a lot of the time, and using the “general life” glasses are not very comfortable for her to use for long periods on the computer.

Seems as though every two or three days she accidentally leaves her computer glasses at work, and then when she gets home and wants to read her email and do our personal book-keeping work on the computer she realizes that she left her computer glasses at work.  She gets very frustrated by that!  So I’m thinking about suggesting to her that she buy a spare pair of glasses through the Zenni Optical website.  I was looking on their website a few minutes ago and saw some lenses that look exactly like the pair she wears, and they were very inexpensive!

I think I’ll suggest that she gets a couple of spare pairs of glasses.  You never know when a pair of glasses is going to break, so having a spare pair or two is always a good idea.  And now, with the great prices at Zenni, it is not a prohibitively expensive luxury.

Addiction Issues

Filed under: Business, Computers, Health, Internet, News — Copa @ 11:04 pm

The Orchid Recovery Center for Women has a useful site for information concerning drug and alcohol treatment, detox and recovery, designed specifically for women. I was reading the Orchid Center Charity Blog that they have and it only makes sense to have a center that is gender specific, theirs is nationally recognized for their exclusive treatment center.

The Internet is a useful tool in researching topics such as this, help is available at the Orchid Recovery Center and you can find everything that you need at their site in order to learn all their is to know. Drug and Alcohol addiction is an ever growing problem. The economy has gotten people so freaked out that they are turning to drastic measures in order to escape all that this economy crisis has dished out to us these past couple of years.

Dr. Drew has brought this addiction issue to the light the past couple of years with his Celebrity Rehab series on VH1. Although celebrities are not the only ones struggling with addiction issues. It is every where and doesn’t show any signs of improving, much like the economy.
