International internships

Jason was telling me that he has accepted an internship in Calgary for next summer. He’s always been interested in learning more about life in Canada; he is especially interested in how their health care system works. He’s honestly considering moving there permanently once he finishes his college education. I think perhaps his lady friend that he is spending a lot of time with just might be influencing him a little bit! Her family is from Calgary!

Regardless, Jason is already spending time looking for Calgary apartment rentals to be living there during the internship. I don’t know if he will be able to get a lease on one for only a summer internship program! I suggested that maybe he contact the company he will be working with and see if they have special housing accommodations already set up for their interns. I think it is very exciting to be able to serve an internship with a company that is in another country! Jason’s future is really bright and exciting!

Car alarm for dooryard

Filed under: General Living,Home Improvement — Copa @ 6:30 pm

I live quite a little ways off of the road and can never really tell if someone is turning around in my dooryard, or coming up to visit.  I don’t like to be surprised.  So I’ve been reading in a lot of magazines about motion detectors that you can hide anywhere in your dooryard so when a vehicle passes that point it sets off an alarm in your house.  I would set it x number of feet off of the road so that if someone is just turning around, it won’t go off, but if they come up a certain amount of feet into the dooryard, I’ll know they are coming up to the house, and we’ll know that they are coming.

They are fairly inexpensive and easy to install.  I hope to put one in real soon!

Pinch those pennies until they cry

Every Sunday it is the same thing; I get up and turn on the coffee pot and walk down the driveway to get the Sunday paper. I wake up my wife with her cup of tea and give her the coupon sections to look at. She happily clips the discount coupons from the newspaper while drinking her morning tea and I watch television while drinking my coffee.  When I’ve finished my coffee I’ll fix breakfast. Sometimes it’s just cinnamon sugar toast, sometimes it’s eggs and bacon. But I always fix the breakfast. It’s a Sunday morning ritual.

Years ago we signed up for a Upromise account, with the thought that using upromise coupon codes would help us save money on the products that we buy in addition to help save money for our kids college educations. We’ve been doing that for probably the past ten years or so. Maybe longer, I’m not sure. I just know that as soon as my wife heard about Upromise she signed right up and we’ve been trying to use it to save money every chance we get. To be perfectly honest we really have not saved a lot of money towards our kids college education, but maybe by the time we have grandchildren we’ll have some significant savings for them to use for their college education!

Handicap parking

Filed under: Cars and Motorcycles and Trucks,Family,General Living — Copa @ 6:13 pm

I’ve always thought that Handicap parking was important, but a lot more so since I got hurt and have to park as close to buildings as close as I can.  I cannot walk very far at this time without help of someone or something such as a wheelchair.  It’s amazing, or I should say, very disappointing to see how many people park in handicap parking spots without any signs of plates or placards – it really irks me!

Just the other day I went to a restaurant to eat.  I, myself, needed to park up close and also my daughter needed to park up close as she had my disabled mother with her.  My mother can’t walk very far at a time either.

When we drove up to the parking spot, we noticed some out-of-state vehicles, particularly a Cadillac Escalade with Massachusetts plates parked in the handicap place.  When we went inside, I said something to the waitress and found out quickly that the vehicle belonged to a bunch of college students who didn’t seem to care where the parked – they didn’t want to walk half the distance from the parking lot, so they parked right in front of the restaurant.  My mother was there, and I was there with my cane, we had to park on the other side of the parking lot.  I let the people know we weren’t very pleased.  They just laughed!  I didn’t have my cell phone with me, or I would have called the police right then and there!  I hope someday they need a handicap parking place and they can’t find one, due to some stupid college who doesn’t want to walk across the parking lot to get something to eat!

Zap the zits, smooth the wrinkles

My wife was telling me that she was thinking about trying the trial offer of the Resurgence skin care system, she was looking at their website today and saw that the company was offering a 60 day guarantee and a reduced price with all kinds of bonus free offers. She says that the product is sold by the Murad company, which is well known for its Acne treatment products.

I suggested that she do a little bit of research and see if she could find some Murad Coupon Codes online that would bring the price down even lower than the special price she found today. Introductory offers always make me nervous; the ad says that the package is worth over a hundred dollars and they are offering it for less than forty dollars. That’s all well and good, but that is only a thirty day supply, and once that is gone I don’t see how we could possibly afford to keep buying the product afterwards. In this economy, I have to wonder how many people are actually able to afford to buy those types of products once the introductory price ends and the full price begins.
