Bring the jobs back home

I was reading that unemployment is continuing to be a growing problem here in the USA.  I think that we need to stop giving tax breaks to the large corporations that ship our jobs overseas and give tax breaks to the businesses that keep the jobs here.  As long as unemployment grows, our economy is going to suffer because people are not going to have the money to spend buying the products that are on the market.  I was watching the news a couple of days ago and the program was talking about how the sales in thrift stores are increasing rapidly because people are hunting for bargains.  That is no surprise to me; I like to shop in thrift stores myself!  Anyway, as long as unemployment continues to rise, I think that the economy is going to keep slipping.

Health insurance

I have to admit that I was very upset when my disability check started having Medicare coverage taken out of my check. The reason I was upset is that I was getting health insurance coverage for free through my wife’s pension and health benefits plan from her company. But when I was injured and declared permanently disabled her health benefits no longer covered me because they said I was eligible for Medicare.

That’s all well and good but Medicare is not free for me; I have to pay for it out of my disability check which I don’t understand all. To make things even more confusing is that I am not receiving the medicare part d part of the insurance. I don’t understand why I have to pay for any of that since I always paid my taxes and I was under the impression if I retired or became disabled I would get these entitlement benefits without any further expense beyond the taxes I had already paid.

One thing is for certain, if my benefits are reduced any more, we may have to sell the house and live in a tent!

Always double check

Lately it seems that every time I go to the drive thru window of a fast food restaurant the employee that fills my order shorts me an item or two. Today I went through the local Wendy’s restaurant drive thru window and ordered three sandwiches, two fries, and a salad.

When I was given the food there were only two sandwiches in the bag. I explained to the employee that I was missing one sandwich and she told me that I had only ordered two sandwiches and told me to check my receipt. I showed her my receipt which clearly showed three sandwiches so she spun around and disappeared for a minute. When she came back she handed the third sandwich to me and said “here” without any apology. I thought that was kind of rude, dont you?

Sad commentary

Recently I had the opportunity to go into the local high school to receive a flu shot. My wife pointed out to me that the hallways were lined with really small lockers and several  enclosed bulletin boards. When we were in high school the bulletin boards were decorated by the students but they were not enclosed at all.

We wondered if the school was using enclosed cork bulletin boards to prevent vandalism or if the need to use them was simply a precautionary measure against students accidentally brushing against them as they hurry off to their next class. My wife started to admire a set of enclosed fabric bulletin boards that were in the lobby and suggested that we look into buying a similar set and donating it to our community center to replace the old and shabby bulletin boards that line the foyer. I agree that would look a lot nicer but I am not certain that I want to spend the money on them since the community center won’t even come to our place to pick up the folding tables and chairs we want to donate to them.

Aggravated

Apparently the Yahoo email service is experiencing problems because I cannot get into my yahoo email account today no matter what I do. Monica tells me that she can’t get into her email either. I have reset the password about four times and now I’ve received a message that I cannot reset it any more until tomorrow. Along with that message is the notation that Yahoo is experiencing a high volume of problems so I’m going to hope that maybe it will work itself out by tomorrow.
