I’ve heard that eating chocolate can be good for you! I was thrilled to hear that – I happen to like chocolate quite a bit! Unfortunately, there is one that I don’t like – the dark chocolate. And that is the one that is healthy for you! Wouldn’t you just know it! My favorite is white chocolate, which I’ve heard really isn’t chocolate at all – it is almond bark. I’d be curious to learn how almond bark is made, and how that differs from how chocolate is made! All this came to mind as I unwrapped a Lindt white chocolate truffle and popped it into my mouth as I sat down to my computer. I could eat those truffles all day long!

I wasn’t very surprised when Billie and Reggie split up last month.  It had become increasingly apparant that they had grown apart.  Everything was fine at first, Billie needed a guy to come to her rescue and fix the problems around the house that she couldn’t fix.  So Reggie was her hero, and he loved it.  But once the problems were fixed and they started to go to parties together as a couple, it became painfully obvious that neither one of them felt comfortable with each other’s friends.

Reggie’s friends were all interested in talking about geek things like web hosting.  Billie didn’t know (and didn’t care) anything about the difference is between managed hosting and colocation.  Billie’s friends were always talking about the stock market and politics.  Reggie felt like a fish out of water with them.

Neither one of them wanted to make the effort to get interested or involved in the interests of the other outside of the house.  To be perfectly honest, I’m surprised that the relationship lasted as long as it did!

My uncle never got over his experience in the Vietnam Police Action mentally. He spent a good amount of his time in the service under the waters in a submarine, which is where they believe he contacted this type of cancer. So by serving his country his head is all screwed up for life and now we are learning that his physical condition, which is deteriorating rapidly is due to his time over seas as well. A double whammy, if you will.

The VA has truly been wonderful. They had such a bad reputation for so very long that my uncle stayed away from anything to do with the VA hospital, but thankfully he was persuaded to give them a try, which he did, and it’s all been good, so far and I hope that they continue to take the best possible care of this special person in my family’s life.

My wife keeps telling me that her brain is tired long before it’s time to go to bed at night.  She has such a mentally active life, and now she is trying to learn a new job, so she is in training.  She tells me that she studies as hard as she can until stuff starts to fall off of the top of her head and then she has to stop.

I can empathize with that, can’t you?  There are times when I’m trying to memorize somethings for one of the clubs that I belong to and after a while I’ve found that I can read something seven or eight times and not have a clue what I’m reading.  I guess everyone’s brain has a saturation point!

What is rather sad about that is the knowledge that as people age, their ability to learn can decrease.  I can remember taking a course in psychology a long time ago where the professor explained that when people reach the age of fifty their language skills decrease but their math skills increase.  Just remembering that scares the begeezus out of me because my language skills are pretty rough to begin with!  I’ve been learning that everyone needs to keep exercising their brain muscle.

Several months ago my wife signed up for a profile on a website called care.com so that she would be considered for the position of occassional pet walker. She thought it would be a fun way to make a few extra dollars from time to time. She loves dogs. Anyway, she got a job this weekend to go to a lady’s house and let her dog outside twice a day and feed and water him. The dog’s name is Spaghetti! I have to wonder why in the world would someone name their dog Spaghetti! I think that they need another one now and name it Meatballs.
