Service with no smile

So on our way home, we stopped at Wendy’s to grab a bite to eat. It was after the lunch rush, so I don’t understand what the problem was specifically, but it seemed as if that Wendy’s was having a difficult day. I don’t think that it’s a full moon, is it?

Anyway, the man who was taking our order, well I suspect that he was in some kind of physical pain. I think I saw a pain patch peeking out from the back of his collar. This poor guy didn’t seem to understand our order, and we had to repeat it several times before he got it right. I noticed that the same thing held true for the customer after us, too. This cashier never smiled, never said please or thank you. In the fast food chain wars I was pretty sure that the restaurants are trying to “hype up” the “smiling faces” part of business advertising!

When we got the order, the food was not as we requested. I had ordered my burger with no onions, but there were onions just the same. That’s always an aggravation to me; I don’t feel that I should have to inspect and pick apart my burger – if I order it with no onions, then it should be no onions! So on this day and location, the service was less than satisfactory. That’s really too bad since my wife and I don’t have the money to eat out very often, so when we DO eat out we want it to be pleasant!

When my wife and I left Staples, we decided to take the scenic route through town to come home.  With all of the flowering shrubs and trees in full bloom, the town is just about the prettiest sight you’d ever care to see.  Since my wife knew a lot of back roads that I’ve never been on, I just sat back and watched the scenery.

We wound our way past several small apartment complexes that had outdoor Cluster Mailboxes by the side of the road that caught my attention.  I was thinking about how it was convenient for the post office to have CBU Mailboxes by the road like that, but from the perspective of the residents of the complexes, I would think that the residents would prefer to have their Apartment Mailboxes inside the building that they live in.

I wondered if the town had special policies that the complexes had to follow when purchasing the Commercial Mailboxes for the complexes that required them to be outside.  I can’t imagine wanting to park my car in the parking lot and then have to run across the parking lot in bad weather!  I think that might even be a deal breaker for me.  When I was first out on my own, in my first apartment, the mailboxes were in the foyer of the building.  I liked that a lot!
