Carbon neutral photography

Thanks to Emily Roderick for the guest post!

One of the things that Travis and I have agreed upon in our wedding planning is that we want to hire a Virginia Wedding Photographer that does a fantastic job with the wedding pictures, but also feels a social responsibility to treat the earth with dignity and respect.  After all, Travis and I are trying hard to lower our carbon footprint on the planet, so we are trying to do business with companies that share our commitment to that end.

So we were thrilled when we started looking at the different Virginia Wedding Photographers that it wasn’t long before we found exactly what we were hoping to find in Roman Grinev Photography.  According to their Virginia Wedding Photography website they are a carbon neutral company.  Their website says that they use an eco-friendly lab for processing their film.  I’d love to know more about that process!  Sometimes I’m such a geek!

Good message

I’ve only heard this song a couple of times on the radio station that I listen to, but I really like the song. I would imagine that it is played a lot on country music radio. It has a good message. I try to keep remembering this song when I’m feeling down.

Keepsakes

I am always amazed at the creativity of my wife.  She is always making things out of what other folks might just throw in the trash.  And by “making things” I mean she re-purposes things in such a way that the object looks nice and serves a purpose not originally intended for the object.

For example, she recently prepared a keepsake album for her brother for his Christmas present.  She bought a wooden album cover and used decoupage techniquies to decorate it with family birth announcement cards, family photographs, wedding invitations, and photocopies of old report cards or school programs that had family names in them.

Other times she has scanned baby announcement cards into our computer and printed them on iron-on patches and then ironed them onto hand-made tote bags she gives to the parents.  Something personalized like that always goes over really big, my wife really enjoys the time she spends thinking up of creative projects like that!

Tough decisions to make

Our cat has developed diabetes, and has stopped using his litter box some of the time.  My wife and I have discussed our options, and we have started putting him on his special diet and giving him insulin shots.  We’ve been keeping his litter box cleaner than before, and we are trying to be patient but it is getting more difficult.  Thankfully he has not messed on our bed (yet) but I imagine that day won’t be too far away.

We’ve had our cat since 1998, and we’re thinking that maybe it is just time to take him to the vet and have him put down.  Neither one of us wants to do that; after all we’ve become quite fond of him.  We can remember how little he was when we first rescued him from the local animal shelter and how sick he was.  How we had to force-feed him by hand for the first two weeks we had him.  We don’t want to put him down just because he has become inconvenient.  But his diabetes is not under control, he is still losing a lot of weight.  We might have to put him down because of that.  No matter what, it is a stressful time.

The great American novel

My wife has been considering writing her life’s story in some fashion.  She can’t decided whether to put it online like a blog, or actually just type in in the computer.  The thing is that I’m sure she feels that it would deserve to be published.  And not just self-published, REAL published.  Well, I don’t have a clue how one would go about writing one’s memoirs and then end up getting it REAL published.  I mean, she is virtually unheard of!

So maybe it would be wise for her to create website of some form, and see if anyone actually expresses any interest in what she has written and see where that leads her.  So in order to do that, we need to come up with a catchy title to the book, and that will also require a domain availability check to see if that same title is available as a domain name.  I think that would be an important marketing tool.

In the meantime, I’ve encouraged her to start writing her story and just save it as a document file on the computer while we figure out what the best course of action will be.  I have to agree that her life’s story (and the story of her family) could be a great soap opera or movie – her family is full of interesting characters and lots of action.
