Undercover Boss

I keep forgetting what night the television show Undercover Boss is on, so I’m always pleasantly surprised when I turn on the television and find that the show is on.  Tonight’s episode was the one where the CEO of the Great Wolf Lodge went undercover.  I thought it was really great when she had to clean the poop from the pool!

I always find it interesting that during these shows the people that are put in charge of the CEO’s “training” all have problems that the CEO ends up taking a personal interest in to fix.  Makes me wonder who picked out these employees, and if they were picked out specifically because of their problems and the audience appeal.  Regardless, I enjoy the show quite a bit.

An eye on savings

I have always been outraged by the amount of money that we have to spend on new eyeglasses every time we go to the eye doctor’s and they tell us that we need a new prescription. In the past the eye doctor would let us re-use our old frames to help cut the cost down, but lately the lady in the optical sales department gives us stern warnings that the frames are only warrantied for a year and if we re-use the old frames that they will probably break fairly quickly.

I think that is a bunch of hogwash – I’ve been able to use some eyeglass frames for many years and never had a problem with them. I think that they are just trying to relocate some of our hard earned money from our bank account into their bank account!

That’s why the next time that I need to buy a pair of prescription eye glasses I am going to tell my eye doctor to just write the prescription and include the pupillary distance so I can buy my next pair of eye glasses from zenni optical. I can save a lot of money by buying them from zenni, and I think that anyone who needs to keep a close eye on their spending habits should consider buying them from zenni as well.

Free Frosty

Tonight I picked my wife up from work and we went to eat dinner at Wendy’s before heading home. The cashier asked us if we wanted to buy a Wendy’s Frosty keytag for $1 each. She explained that entitled us to Free Frosty Juniors for a year!

Well my wife and I both bought one! We both like Frostys, and being able to pick up a Frosty Junior for free every day for a year, well that is just awesome! The keytag stipulates that we are supposed to buy something each time, but the cashier said we don’t have to. Well, I guess we’ll see about that, won’t we! Regardless, $1 is cheap enough for a free dessert for a year every time we go there, since we go there often!

Can’t get away with much

Naturally when my doctor told me that I have diabetes he told me that I also have very high cholesterol and had to change my entire lifestyle.  Boy did I get upset over that!  I am a big meat and potatoes man and I love to snack on all kinds of junk food – potato chips, candy bars, cake, ice cream.  And don’t I just love love love French Fries!

So for several weeks my wife was researching and looking for all of the medical information she could find about diabetes and high cholesterol and it wasn’t long before all of my cookies and candy in the house were low-fat and sugar free.  I fussed at her quite a bit over that, I did not want to eat those things.  But she was also eating the low fat and sugar free things with me, knowing that it would be easier if she went through it with me.  And that helped a lot.  But we do still indulge once in a while in the “real thing.”  You just HAVE to, you know?  You can’t take ALL the fun out of living!

Dunkin Donuts

My favorite coffee in the world is Dunkin Donuts coffee. And my wife and I both love their donuts and muffins. The closest Dunkin Donuts to where we live is over forty five minutes away! I wonder if we had realized that before we moved here if we sould have still come here! Be that as it may, I had heard that there USED to be Dunkin Donuts shops in town and that they couldn’t make a go of it. That makes me think that there must have been some serious mismanagement going on there at that store! If I had enough money to invest in a franchise, I’d be tempted to open one myself!
