Thinking about a new credit card

Once a person has decided to apply for a credit card, the hunt is on for which ones of the dozens of credit cards best fit the needs of the consumer.

My personal favorite credit cards are the Discover cards. I absolutely LOVE the cash back bonus. I spend enough money every month so that the cash back really adds up fast. There are several Discover cards to choose from. The Discover Motiva card is geared towards rewarding consumers when they purchase online at Discover’s own online shopping mall website. The Discover More card lets their customers sign up for periodic bonus cash back programs where they get 5% cash back for special types of purchases for a season or two.

The only disadvantage that I’ve had with the Discover card is that sometimes a company does not accept Discover Card. That is why I also have VISA and Mastercards.

Some of those VISA and MasterCards are Chase Bank cards. There are several good programs through Chase that make their rewards just as good (or almost as good) as my Discover card. The Chase Freedom card, for example, gives great cash back bonuses, and those bonuses are almost identical to the Discover card that I use the most. The biggest reason that I use my Discover card more than the Chase card is the fact that my credit limit is higher on my Discover card! Seriously, that is the only reason!

The Blueprint feature that Chase offers on their Chase Slate card is a great convenience to the shoppers that want to customize how much they pay down on what purchase that they made. I can see where that would be a great help to a lot of people who are juggling their expenditures around. For people who like to travel and rack up frequent flyer points, Chase Sapphire can’t be beat. The points never expire and there are no blackout dates. Chase even has a rewards card for their business customers called Chase Ink Cash. Even that card is a rewards card, giving cash back bonuses to their business customers!

Although not a rewards card, the Iberia VISA card is a good choice for people who need to carry a balance on their card. Iberia charges the lowest interest rate on the market!

For people who want to transfer a balance, one of the lowest price balance-transfer cards on the market right now is Capital One Platinum Prestige card. What’s especially nice about this card is that you also get 24 hour travel emergency assistance if you lose your card!

With airlines charging people for their luggage nowadays, the frequent flyer can’t go wrong with the Continental One Pass Plus Card. In addition to getting flyer miles, the customer gets their first checked bag for free. With the airlines charging so much money for checking luggage, that adds up fast!

Rebuilding poor credit is easier to do with the relatively lesser-known Orchard VISA and MasterCard. This card is designed to help people rebuild their bad credit. Their interest rates are actually a lot lower than one would expect, and they report to all three of the major credit companies. This would be a good company to apply for a card if you’ve had some financial troubles in the past that hurt your credit rating.

Cat with diabetes

We knew something was wrong with our cat. He had lost about 1/3 of his body weight, and was drinking and urinating a LOT more than usual. So much so that the clumping litter is simply overwhelmed and can’t clump like it used to. And the automatic cleaning Litter Maid box simply couldn’t handle it all.

We’ve put the cat on insulin for about three weeks now, and we don’t think that it has made any difference yet. We have to take him back to the vet tomorrow for a follow up visit to see how the insulin is going. I’m guessing that the vet will tell us we have to increase the dose.

Get the best deals on broadband and mobile broadband

Many of us take our broadband or mobile broadband for granted – if it isn’t going wrong, it’s just another bill that comes out by direct debit each month. You may be getting OK broadband, but it doesn’t take long to compare broadband deals and special offers – you’ll often find you can get cheap mobile broadband with some great extras thrown in, or a cheap mobile broadband deal that will leave your old one in the dust for value.

Firstly, you can pick up some great broadband deals by getting more than one service from the same supplier. For example, if you have an Orange or O2 mobile phone deal, you’ll be able to get a cheap broadband or cheap mobile broadband deal from the same provider – both supply all three products and discount heavily to loyal customers.

Another way to grab a cheap broadband deal is to look out for time-limited special offers. As so many of us now have home broadband, the big companies are falling over each other to get your custom. At last count, Broadband Genie had around 50 broadband special offers with everything from three months free broadband to free wine and shopping vouchers!

It’s a similar story with mobile broadband, although the providers are scrabbling for new customers as more people catch on to the idea. Again you can get up to three months of free broadband, as well as everything from free newspaper subscriptions to great laptop deals.

You’ll tend to find the best cheap broadbanddeals are on contracts – and the longer contract you sign up for, the more money off you’ll get. However, you can also sometimes find some great cheap pay-as-you-go mobile broadband deals, as the broadband providers will look to hook you in on prepay in the hope you’ll later to look to save more money by signing up to a contract.

But before you sign up for a new cheap broadband or Cheap mobile broadband deal, be sure to call your current service provider first. They’re sure to want to keep you, so may offer you an even cheaper deal than you’ve found elsewhere! For broadband companies, customer retention is key.

So next time your broadband bill pops through your door, or into your inbox, take a look at a comparison site such as Broadband Genie to see if there might be a great cheap broadband or mobile broadband deal out there for you!

An Irish Blessing

A friend posted this Irish blessing on her FB wall. I liked it and want to share it here:

May you be blessed always with a sunbeam to warm you, a moonbeam to charm you, and a sheltering angel, so nothing can harm you.

Converting Regular Video to an iPad

Filed under: Computers,Hobbies,Technology and Gadgets — Copa @ 4:45 pm

Years ago we undertook a big project to convert all the old 8 MM and Super 8 home movies to VHS format. My brother got the equipment to do it and he spent many hours over a period of 2 months to sort through all the old movies and have them appear on the new tapes in the right sequence.

Now we have to get a Video Converter and make everything digital so we can watch them on our DVD players or our personal computers. And the good thing about the conversion process this time is that you do not have to sequence them prior to the recording.

My brother found out that there is a Video Converter for Mac, which is the computer format he prefers. He does a lot of graphics work and the Mac has always been the “go to” machine for artists and publishers.

I asked him to look into getting an iPad Video Converter, too. We can do some fun things with the old music videos from the 1980′s if we can get them into an iPad. I have an old VHS collection of music videos that I just can’t bear to throw out. But if I can get them all converted, then I don’t have any problem getting rid of the old tapes. They are big and take up a lot of space. But once they are digitized I can reclaim that space and use it for DVDs instead.
