Have you ever wondered what you can do in this day and age to let our Vietnam Vets know that we appreciate their sacrifices that they made in the name of Uncle Sam? Looking back at the the time when the Vietnam war was really happening, I feel badly that so many people were angry with our troops for doing what was required of them. Instead of letting them know how proud we were of them, we humiliated and berated them for serving our country. That’s really sad.
One way that we can show our belated appreciation is through one of the charities set up to give the Vietnam Vets a hand. We can donate a car to the Vietnam Veterans of America organization. The Vietnam Veterans of America is a charity dedicated to improving the lives of our Vietnam Vets. Contrary to what one might think about car donations, you don’t need to donate a car that runs. By visiting their website at vietnamveteranscardonation.org you can learn how to donate a car and receive a tax deduction for the car. This is a great way for all of our “red necks” who have vehicles parked on cinder-blocks in their backyards to support the vets AND clean up their yard!
My friend Maryanne was telling me that her boss is always talking about being ready to leave this life, that he is tired of it. She thought he was joking, but she said “well, I hope you have plenty of funeral insurance for your wife and kids to get by after you’re gone!” When he said no, he had no insurance; he didn’t care what happened after he died she was shocked! She thinks that he is one of the most selfish men she has ever met! I have to agree with her.
I cannot imagine a sadder event than someone passing away and leaving their family completely unprepared to deal with the burden of having to beg their friends and family for money to help pay for the funeral expenses. That’s why buying insurance is the minimum anyone should do to prevent putting that kind of hardship on the people that they love and leave behind.
Over the past several years my wife has been fussing at me to stop feeding the cat so many kitty treats. She has been warning me that the vet tells her that the cat is too fat and at risk for diabetes. She even had me take the cat to the vet a few times to have the vet warn me himself. Well, long story short, the past few weeks the cat has not been acting right. He has lost a lot of weight suddenly and he drinks and pees a lot more than usual. So I took the cat to the vet. Yup, diabetes. Now we have to feed him special prescription food and give him insulin shots. He is letting me give him the shots without any fuss (much to my surprise) and I guess we will have to wait and see on the results. What a pain in the neck! I’m really surprised that my wife has had the self-control to not say “I warned you” or “I told you so!”
