The stress is enormous

When I was a teenager, no one I knew had even heard of teen rehab or teen addiction statistics.  Sure, we had a health class in middle school where we watched videos about the dangers of drinking and doing drugs, but it was nothing like the DARE program that so many of the schools use now.

I think it is a really sad state of affairs that we are putting so much pressure on our teenagers nowadays to study so hard to get into college, telling them that if they don’t get into a good college then their lives will be ruined.  I think that is the main reason for so much substance abuse and teen suicide!  Of course, the social media now creates more intense peer pressure, too.  Geez, life was so much simpler when I was a teenager!

At least I’m glad to know that there are teen drug rehab facilities for our struggling families.  I do think that things would be a lot easier, though, if schools focused more on dealing with stress in healthy ways instead of putting so much pressure on them to succeed.
