My wife is always telling me that if I want something done right, I have to do it myself. I don’t like it when she says that. Usually because it is right after I complain that I wanted something done a certain way by her or another family member and it was done differently. The adage “there’s more than one way to skin a cat” aggravates me as well. Not because I’m an animal rights activist (although I do NOT advocate skinning cats!) But because it implies that there is more than one way to get the job done. And I’m always wanting things done MY way. You know, the old “It’s my way or the highway” applies here.
This morning I sat down to read my email and found an email from my sister Helen. She was contacting me about going in together to buy a citizen diamond watch for our Aunt Martha for Christmas. She included a photo of the watch she was thinking about buying for her. She said that she had recently gone shopping with Aunt Martha and that they had admired a watch like that in a jewelry store window.
Helen said she found a place on the Internet at bluedial.com where she could get a really good price on the watch – about 70% off retail, and free shipping! I told her that sounds like a good idea to me, and to go ahead and order it.
I showed the picture of the watch to my wife, and she thought it was a great looking watch. She liked the bangle styling, saying it looked more like a pretty jewelry piece to wear on a “dressy occasion” and not just a “common every-day wear around the house while doing housework” type of watch.
I’m taking that comment as a hint that maybe my wife would like one too! I’ve seen the way she looks at her every-day watch when she puts on a dress! So I think maybe I’ll get one for her, too!
I’ve noticed that when I go somewhere and bring my GPS with me that if the weather is cloudy (or raining, snowing, etc) that the GPS unit often does not find the satellite signal. That is the biggest gripe that I have about the GPS systems – they are not reliable. I can’t restrict my travel to clear weather days! And it is very annoying when I am driving somewhere and the maps on the GPS are obviously so outdated that they don’t even recognize roads that have been in place for at least the past 20 years! The GPS I have is not 20 years old, the maps should be more recent than that! I don’t want to spend the money to buy updated maps at this point because I have doubts that the updated maps will be any better than the ones already in the system!
My brother-in-law loves to deer hunt. We drew his name in the annual Christmas gift exchange, so my wife and I have decided that we would buy him a casio pathfinder watch for the Christmas gift this year. They are on sale now at the bluedial.com website, and they offer free shipping as well! His wife says that would be the perfect gift for him because when he is out hunting he loses track of time and is never home in time for dinner!
This particular watch never needs batteries because it is solar powered. And a compass is included in the watch, so there will be no excuses for getting lost!
My wife and I have been taking a hard look at our finances the past couple of weeks. As you may or may not know, I was badly injured in a car accident last fall and was out of work for a long time. I have not been receiving any income while out of work, and we have been struggling to make ends meet.
When we moved down here she was reluctant about the possibility of us being self employed because it is a lot of hours – we were self employed in New England. But some of these franchises sound like they could work for us because I have the time to do the work – my physical limitations revolve around limited mobility that we could do a work-around with this. But she has been looking for work for over two years now and can’t seem to find anything! Everyone says she is over-qualified! So now she is going to go ahead and try a self-employment approach and try to start a Personal Chef business. I hope it works! She’s a good cook.
