Water troubles

Today the water filter guy is here, doing the annual maintenance service on our house system water filter.  I asked him about some issues we’ve been having with our water.  We have a black ring constantly around our toilet bowl, and green stains in our bathtubs and sinks.  Our humidifiers have a large buildup of salt that we need to clean off frequently.  We had hoped when we had the filter put in that these issued would disappear.

He told us that the black ring around the toilet bowls was probably bacterial from the toilet tank and told us to clean the toilet tank.  He said that we could switch from salt in our softener to potassium to reduce the salt buildup, and that he was going to “work” on the green stain issue.  He thinks it has something to do with the electrical system being grounded to our pipes.  I don’t know if the electrical system is grounded to our pipes or not; I thought that was standard procedure.  Anyway, he said he was going to check it out.  I hope we can get this fixed, these are issues with our water I’d rather not have!

Easy PC Synch

Found an easy way to synchronize my new laptop with my desktop at home. There’s a great USB Portable Drive that I found online that cost less than $120, and it holds a huge amount of files!

This handy little drive is by IDrive, and it holds 320GB! That’s more than my laptop’s hardrive! It’s so small it fits right into my pocket! It only weighs 1/3 of a pound, can you believe that?  This gadget is completely USB powered, so it needs no external power source other than the USB drive on my computer!  This is a great investment, so much storage space on such a tiny thing!

Near miss with truck cargo

Filed under: Cars/Motorcycles/Trucks, General Living, Health — Copa @ 5:40 pm

I was driving home from work this afternoon, following behind a large truck heavily loaded with firewood.  It was already cut into fireplace lengths, but not split.  We were on a highway, so we were driving about 55mph.  There was one vehicle between that truck and my car, and I was nervous about how closely that car was tailgating that truck.  People tell me that I am too defensive of a driver and that I should drive more aggressively.

Well, let me share this with you.  A chunk of wood fell off of that truck and hit the car in front of me.  The driver of that car lost control, slamming on their brakes and went into a sideways skid.  If I had been driving “more aggressively” I would have run into that car!  As it was, I was driving at a safe braking distance and managed to avoid hitting any cars.  I managed to change lanes safely and stop the car and use my cell phone to call for help.  Fortunately no one was injured.  If I had been driving “more aggressively” that would not have been the case!
