Funny Superbowl commercial for cash4gold

The cash4gold Superbowl commercial, featuring MC Hammer and Ed McMahon made me laugh.  Especially the part where MCHammer was talking about turning in his medal that shows him holding a medal!  And when Ed McMahon was talking about turning in his gold golf club!  What a riot!

They were promoting the business cash4gold, where the company buys gold items.  Eventually the gold gets melted down and reused somehow, but the point being that the average “Joe the plumber” can take some no-longer-wanted gold items to the cash4gold company and exchange the item for cash.  I’ve done that before, back in the 80′s when the economy was struggling and the gold prices were very high!  I traded in my high school class ring!

The cash4gold company not only buys unwanted gold, but they also buy old silver and platinum.  You might not have a lot of gold sitting around, but you might have some old silver sitting around in the form of candle sticks, serving trays, “silver service” tea sets and genuine silver “silver ware.”

It’s been a while since I’ve paid attention to that sort of thing, but I’m pretty sure that I have some sterling silver candlesticks lying around that I could sell.  I recall that back in the 80′s I was thinking about selling them and took them to a local jeweler to see if he could tell me if they were sterling or not, and he told me that there was a mark on them that said “sterling” so that meant that they were!

Will you be watching the Superbowl?

I plan to be watching the Superbowl shortly.  I’m rooting for the Cards, because they’ve never even BEEN to the Superbowl, and the Steelers have been there a few times, and have won before.  So, I’m always one to “root for the underdog” – probably because I’ve always felt like the underdog myself most of my life!  So, I’ve got the nachos and sodas ready for snacking, and am looking forward to some great commercials, and the half-time show with “The Boss” should be great!

More companies are going green

Apparently the buzzword of the decade is “green.”  Everywhere I look, I see a sign or a commercial or an article in a paper or magazine, or website touting how a company is “green.”   I think that is a good thing, but I also remember reading a newspaper article recently about how some unscrupulous companies are claiming to be “green” when they really are not.  I was really surprised when I learned that some website hosting companies are “going green.”

The webhostinggeeks.com website reviews and rates web hosting services, and they indicate that there are some “green webhosting services.”  They have reviewed and rated them, and surprisingly enough their prices are really competitive!  So if you need a web hosting service, let me encourage you to check out these “green” ones!

On the topic of sleep

I was reading an article on the livescience.com website earlier today about how the New York City bedbugs that have been plaguing the hotels there are becoming resistant to the insecticide that is used to kill them!  The article was continuing to talk about how bed bugs live in the mattresses or bed frames of beds, and that they feed on people, which results in large painful welts.  The article also was talking about how they harbor diseases such as HIV and hepatitis B but that there is no evidence yet that they transmit those diseases.  I find it very hard to believe that if they harbor these diseases that they don’t also transmit them!  This is a very scary thought to me - the possibility that you might pick up such a dangerous disease by sleeping in a hotel bed?   I’m not thinking about sleeping in a NYC hotel anytime soon, thank you very much!
