My wife’s step-mother moved to Florida a couple of years ago. She’s been widowed now for about twenty seven years and enjoys single life very much. One of the big challenges, however, of moving to a new area, is meeting new people. So she got involved in her area’s Newcomer’s Club, and that helped her for a while but she said that her Newcomers Club will only let you be a member for six months! Can you imagine that, only for six months? So she has been looking for other ways to meet more people, and perhaps have a date or two.
She sent my wife an email yesterday that said that she has found a singles club called Great Expectations that is club with a physical building that they use to hold functions, dances, dinners, that sort of thing/ She explained that there are clubhouses in several cities around the United States, for example there is one in Richmond VA and one in Clearwater FL. She found her branch by going to Google and searching on the keywords Great Expectations – Clearwater, FL. She’s very excited about the opportunity to meet more new people and have a more active social life! She is a very active woman that doesn’t like to sit still for long! She should have a great time!

My wife has to drive to work in the dark in the mornings. Neither one of us likes that very much, but there’s not much we can do about it! She told me that this morning she saw an unusually large amount of deer in the road on about three different occasions. That IS unusual, she usually only sees one to three, all at once. Anyway, what made today most unusual is that the first time was a deer that was limping across the road, apparently with a broken leg. It wasn’t using one of its front legs at all. That made my wife very sad, feeling badly for the poor thing, thinking about how much it must be suffering. That deer was followed closely by a second deer that wasn’t limping. It stands to reason that they were related, and it’s just a very sad sight to see an injured deer limping off into the woods in the middle of winter. It’s not hunting season anymore, so the poor thing will probably die from gangrene or some other horrible death.
The second occassion was about two miles down the road, there was a whole herd of about seven deer just standing in the road! Usually we see deer running across the road, this herd was simply standing there, looking around. My wife stopped the car and had to blow the horn before they moved away. I wonder what that was all about?
And the third occasion was the type she’s used to seeing, four deer just running across the road, one at a time. She stopped the car again, to make sure that there weren’t any more coming, and then kept on going. Strange start of the day, seeing that many deer!
