The rain came, and it rained and it rained. And it rained some more. I thought it would never stop raining! It’s been a long time since I saw it rain this long around here. It started around 6 this morning, was coming down in buckets at noon, slowed up in the afternoon, but by 4pm it was pouring again. I looked outside and my flowers were starting to float away! I’m glad I’m not up in Maine; it would have had three feet of snow by now. They say it is supposed to rain again tomorrow; I hope not!
My brother called me last night to say hi and “catch up” on all the family news. He lives in North Carolina near Wrightsville Beach, and we don’t get to see each other very often. We were talking about how the schools are letting out for the summer, and he is going to be taking his grandson for a couple of weeks to stay with him. His grandson lives in Maine, so my brother doesn’t get the chance to see him very often. This is the first time that my brother has been able to take his grandson for a stay with him in North Carolina, he usually has to fly to Maine to see him, and has only been able to see him for a few hours at a time.
He plans to take him to one of the summer camps at Wrightsville Beach that teach surfing while he has his grandson with him. He plans to enroll both of them with Surf Camp; they will sign up for the Family Surfing Day Camp. It is a five day program that teaches the fundamentals of surfing. Their student to teacher ratio is 3:1, which is a really good ratio! They are staffed with professional surfing instructors. Surf Camp also offers teen summer camps, overnight camp, and surf lessons.

I guess I really don’t understand why people are protesting the running of the Olympic torch. The time to protest the location of the Olympics was BEFORE the committee gave it to China! We all knew (didn’t we?) that China has a bad reputation for abusing human rights. The Olympic committee made a grave mistake when it believed China’s promise that they would “improve” that situation.
But, the Olympics WAS awarded to China, and for countries to boycott it now is only harming the athletes who have been training so hard to attend and compete.
