Over the last few years, I thought it was very cool to be driving along, looking at people’s dooryards and seeing lights down their driveways. As I researched this, I found out that these are kits that, with a little time and effort, can be installed quite easily and make your house look like we are rich (we aren’t!) I found out you can buy different types of kits, square lights, round lights, old fashioned, new “state of the art” or just plain lights that light up the dooryard.
These can be run by low voltage power or by solar power. I really wanted solar when I started researching but I found out that after a few years the solar panels fade out or just stop working and some of the lights don’t work, whereas with electricity the lights will always work. I have yet to install these kits in my dooryard, but I have bought the kits, and I hope to install them this summer. That ought to impress my wife some night when she comes home and sees the lights up and down the dooryard!
My aunt emailed me today and told me that she just noticed that the basement of the house that she bought in Connecticut last month has some cracks in it that seep water every time it rains. She was hoping to finish the basement into some nice rooms, and she is worried about mold and mildew growing in the basement.
I told her to that she needs to call Budget Dry Waterproofing. They are the most dependable Connecticut basement waterproofing company that I know of. They also are the most reasonably priced. They charge 15% to 30% less than the leading national companies.
I told her that they give free inspections and free estimates and that they have the best warranty and guarantee in the business.
I live quite a little ways off of the road and can never really tell if someone is turning around in my dooryard, or coming up to visit. I don’t like to be surprised. So I’ve been reading in a lot of magazines about motion detectors that you can hide anywhere in your dooryard so when a vehicle passes that point it sets off an alarm in your house. I would set it x number of feet off of the road so that if someone is just turning around, it won’t go off, but if they come up a certain amount of feet into the dooryard, I’ll know they are coming up to the house, and we’ll know that they are coming.
They are fairly inexpensive and easy to install. I hope to put one in real soon!
