Getting more training at work

Filed under: Business, Computers, Shopping — Copa @ 4:45 pm

It seems as if I’m always getting more training at work!  Sometimes I think I’m in training more than I’m working!  I’ve been out of work for a couple of months because I hurt my back in an accident, but I went back to the office today to talk to them about when I’ll be coming back, and what I’ll be doing.  I have to get a written note from my doctor that I can return to work, and then they’ll be putting me back in training!

I was talking to my boss about how they handle training management, and he was telling me that they use a special program called Conductor that helps them plan and track each employee’s training.  He said that is the best set-up he’s ever seen.  It’s really important that they have a software program like that because the company has hundreds of employees, and it would be a real logistical nightmare to keep track of the training of all of those employees without it!

Mowing the lawn already!

Filed under: General Living, Home Improvement — Copa @ 4:20 pm

I can’t believe I’ve had the lawn mowed already once (I can’t do it yet because I hurt my back.)  The grass is really growing, and really green!  I called the neighbor up to see if he would come mow my lawn.  He wasn’t home, so I left a message on his machine!  When I got back from a doctor’s appointment, the lawn was already half mowed!  He was really going right to town!

He was even stopping and picking up the branches and sticks that had fallen on the lawn!  I couldn’t believe it!  What a nice neighbor!  This was about six days ago.  This morning I decided to take a walk around the house.  When I went out back, it seemed like the grass was a foot high again already!  So I guess I’m going to have to call him to ask him to come mow it again!

Anyway, the grass is nice and green, and I’m not sure if I’ll even bother to put fertilizer on it!  I love green grass, I love the smell of it after it’s been mowed.  I’m not sure if I like sitting on the front porch and watching it grow right in front of me!  But anyway, it’s nice to have a nice green lawn!

Daughter’s new skateboard

My daughter has decided that instead of just buying an “in-stock” skateboard from a local store, that she wants to custom build her own skateboard through a company over the Internet.  She was telling me that you go to the website, www.warehouseskateboards.com/ and order the individual parts of the skateboard that you want and they custom build it for you based on the parts that you order.

She says that you order a skateboard deck, a truck, wheels, bearings, hardware, and grip tape all separately.  All of those things have multiple manufacturers to choose from!  I did not know that you could do that, I thought you just went down to the local sporting goods store and bought a skateboard!  I’ve learned a lot about skateboards from talking with my daughter!

Daughter has learned to skateboard

My daughter’s boyfriend loves to skateboard.  He has encouraged my daughter to learn how to skateboard too.  He has been lending her one of his skateboards to learn on.  There is a skateboard park near where they live, and they have been going there every day for several weeks now.  She has found out that she loves to skateboard too, and is getting pretty good at it!  So, she tells me that she has decided to buy her own skateboard.

Daughter is furnishing a new home

My daughter has finally moved into her very own house last week.  Moving out of her mother’s house is a big step in growing up!  She has to furnish the entire house; she has very little furniture to start out with, so she will be spending a lot of money getting her house set up!

She is planning to set up the spare bedroom in her new house for her office work.  She has been looking for good deals and discounts over the Internet, trying to find  cheap furniture for that room.  She needs a complete set-up.  She needs filing cabinets, a desk, a chair, a couple of bookshelves, and a printer stand.

She tells me that she found a website, http://www.officedeals.info that has a lot of links to places where she can get bargains and coupons and promotion codes to a lot of different office supply merchants.  A friend of hers told her to try browsing the Internet for Newegg promotion code deals for low prices on computer parts, and that is how she found the website.

She tells me that when she went to that website, she found great deals on Herman Miller Aeron Office Chairs.  She said that they are ergonomically designed to be comfortable while sitting for a long time.   She also wants to buy a new cordless phone that has an extra handset.
